Ruby Tuesday - Balinese Dance - August 30, 2011

This is another one of my "lost" photos from the past, taken during an overnight
stop in Bali on a cruise in 1997.  I lost the original photo and this was a scanned
picture I had made from it to hang in my office cubicle at work.  It certainly is
not as good as the original photo but I'm glad to have it.

I am participating in Ruby Tuesday -
check out the site and join in the fun!

Actually, this boy was the brother of the girl who is on my book cover! He, too, was an incredible dancer!

The dance troupe that came to perform on board our ship was incredible. I chose his sister's picture for the cover of my poetry book, "Life's Journey".

  4. He does look just like his sister. Great shot and colors. I love those performances.

  5. Even a not-so-good photo is better than none at all! Every time you look at it, it stirs your soul with memories...

    FEELING RED

    I am feeling red today—
Better that than blue, they say.

Red is such a cheery shade,
    Sweetest color ever made,

    Brightens everything you do—
Better red, they say, than blue!

you know, I learned in Cambodia that they train their fingers to bend like that by using hollow coconut shells and pushing their palms inside, which bends the fingers back in a beautiful curve along the coconut wall. isn't that interesting? (and also it sounds a bit painful...)
i hope you are well, Carmen.

These dancers were so wonderful. I liked our guy at the Asian Art Museum but this troupe were unbelievable. Of course, it was so nice that they had their musicians and, to see, the whole group of dancers was really spectacular.

It was a great trip. Prior to the cruise, I spent a few days in Bangkok. Got to see several Thai dance performers and they were beautiful, too. Lovely costumes and very graceful movements.

You are so right! When I came across this picture, it was such a joy. I was right back 14 yearss ago in Bali, enjoying that wonderful evening on board ship, watching those dancers. Sure wish I could go again.

This photo is one of my favorites...the boy is so colorful! His sister was incredibly beautiful - I used her photo as the cover of my poetry book which was published in 2010.

Valery, you MUST go to Bali, if not for your wedding, how about for your honeymoon? Or, perhaps, for a ten year renewal of your vows. I was just there on a cruise so we arrived one morning, stayed overnight and sailed the following evening at 5PM - not nearly time enough. I wish I could have spent a week there. It is a magical place and you and your beautiful lady would love it.

I'd never heard that about the dancers training their fingers in a hollow coconut. Amazing. I wonder if they have terrible arthritis when they get old!!! I'm well, Manuela...slightly crazed trying to get ready for India.

The dances are beautiful..but, then, so are your Indian dances!

  14. Hello, RNSANE

The state of the dance has a mysterious atmosphere.
    Understand the world.
It is an entrance to wisdom.

You accept a wonderful view of the world.
    It is holy thought.

    Have a good weekend.

The dancers in Indonesia and, also, in Thailand were so beautiful and the costumes were especially so.

I wish I had been able to see dances during my two short visits to Japan. Sadly, we did not have the time or the opportunity. I had wanted to do so and, especially, to see a Kabuki play.

I enjoyed seeing the picture again myself. It brought back such lovely memories.
